In recognition of his extraordinary contributions
to peace in the world, through his life long work teaching the essence
of what it means to be human and to treat one another with love, have established the Distinguished Ashley Montagu Peace Award
Established in 1995, the Ashley Montagu Peace Award is presented at the Annual International Conference on Conflict Resolution (ICR), held each May in St. Petersburg, Russia, to recognize and honor individuals who's life work has distinguished them in contributing to an international culture of peace. The ICR Conference is a Multidisciplinary, Multicultural Conference sponsored by It has received wide support from major universities, Ashley Montagu was an esteemed anthropologist and social biologist with a lifelong interest in bridging the gap between social and biological sciences. He devoted his life to helping people better understand human nature through the study of evolution, racism, sexism, genetics, religion, childrearing techniques, human aggression, and human tenderness. He taught at a number of universities, including Harvard and Princeton, was formerly Chairman of the Department of Anthropology at Rutgers, and was a consultant to UNESCO. He was a prolific author of over 70 books, whose classic works include The Elephant Man, Touching, Mans Most Dangerous Myth: The Fallacy of Race, The Natural Superiority of Women, and On Being Human. Dr. Montagu was the recipient of many awards, including the Rollo May Award from Saybrook institute, the Pathfinder Award from the Association for Humanistic Psychology, the Charles Darwin Award from the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Anthropologists. He had recently written the sixth edition of Mans Most Dangerous Myth: The Fallacy of Race, originally published over 50 years ago, as well as a new edition of The Natural Superiority of Women. He was a special advisor to Common Bond Institute (CBI), and a good friend to both CBI and the Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP).
