In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to peace in the world, through his life long work teaching the essence of what it means to be human and to treat one another with love,

Common Bond Institute
and
HARMONY Institute for Psychotherapy and Counseling
in cooperation with the International Humanistic Psychology Association

have established the Distinguished

Ashley Montagu Peace Award

"To be kind, to be, to do and to depart gracefully."
.... Ashley Montagu, 1905-1999

Established in 1995, the Ashley Montagu Peace Award is presented at the Annual International Conference on Conflict Resolution (ICR), held each May in St. Petersburg, Russia, to recognize and honor individuals who's life work has distinguished them in contributing to an international culture of peace.

The ICR Conference is a Multidisciplinary, Multicultural Conference

sponsored by
Common Bond Institute (USA)
-and-
HARMONY Institute (Russia)
in collaboration with the International Humanistic Psychology Association

It has received wide support from major universities,
professional groups, and government organizations globally.

Ashley Montagu was an esteemed anthropologist and social biologist with a lifelong interest in bridging the gap between social and biological sciences. He devoted his life to helping people better understand human nature through the study of evolution, racism, sexism, genetics, religion, childrearing techniques, human aggression, and human tenderness. He taught at a number of universities, including Harvard and Princeton, was formerly Chairman of the Department of Anthropology at Rutgers, and was a consultant to UNESCO. He was a prolific author of over 70 books, whose classic works include The Elephant Man, Touching, Man’s Most Dangerous Myth: The Fallacy of Race, The Natural Superiority of Women, and On Being Human.

Dr. Montagu was the recipient of many awards, including the Rollo May Award from Saybrook institute, the Pathfinder Award from the Association for Humanistic Psychology, the Charles Darwin Award from the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Anthropologists. He had recently written the sixth edition of Man’s Most Dangerous Myth: The Fallacy of Race, originally published over 50 years ago, as well as a new edition of The Natural Superiority of Women.

He was a special advisor to Common Bond Institute (CBI), and a good friend to both CBI and the Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP).

"Congratulations...to all the congenial, loving human beings who are brought together for this conference, and may precipitate mankind into a new world"
...... Ashley Montagu, 1905-1999
