B-2 "Using Interactive Resonance for Transforming The Enemy Image" (Lecture, Discussion, Experiential) The image of an enemy is a self-organizing mental structure produced by a recursive repetition of anxiety patterns and isolated thereafter from personal awareness by trauma. Trauma is the loss of semantic and grammatical connection with the archetype of wholeness. Recursive (recurrent) anxiety development is affected by different kinds of dependencies, which in their turn are the consequences of the instincts breakdown. The image of the enemy evolves during the recursion. The author will introduce a synergetic model of the emergence of dangerous biases and describe some ways of overcoming them. He will also speak about the method of Interactive Resonance and how it can be applied to cope with hostility.

B-4 " 'Blind Spot' in Therapy: The Internal Conflict between Objective and Subjective Countertransference" (Experiential, Lecture) Therapists, counselors and other helping professionals know of a "blind spot" - a certain zone which is "unobservable" for a specialist thus being beyond the reach of therapeutic intervention. This phenomenon reflects the internal unconscious conflict between the feelings and emotions of a therapist and those induced by a client. Countertransference awareness and working through feelings make therapy more successful and result in "blind spots" diminishing. D-1 "Rehabilitation of Helping Professionals Working with Survivors in Beslan" (Lecture (Discussion, MultiMedia) Specialists from HARMONY Institute continue to do rehabilitation work in Beslan. They work with terrorist attack survivors as well as helping professionals (doctors, social workers, teachers, and psychologists). Presenters will share their vision of the situation they've been observing in Beslan for the last 18 months. Participants will have a chance to see some photographs taken at the site of the program, ask questions and share their own experience of participating or running similar rehabilitation projects.

 E-1 "The Killing Fields Revisited: A Report from Cambodia" (Lecture, Discussiion) In 1975, the pro-American Cambodian government fell to the Communist Khmer Roughe, igniting one of the bloodiest revolutions in the 20th century. Pol Pot, leader of the new regime, initiated a four year reign of terror, targeting teachers, monks, artists, intellectuals, as well as members of the former ruling elite. Traditional family structures were broken up and cities were evacuated. Some two million people perished due to executions (many of them in the "killing fields"), hard labor, disease, starvation, and land mines. An invasion by Vietnam ended the massacres. The presenters will review these events and discuss the reasons why world attention has ignored these tragic events.

E-2 "Meeting Human Needs, Preventing Violence: Applying Human Needs Theory to the Conflict in Chechnya" (Discussion, Roundtable, Multimedia) This presentation will look at how Human Needs Theory can be applied to the conflict in Chechnya. It will 1) look at HNT and some of its theorists, and consider the usefulness and the criticisms of Human Needs Theory. 2) briefly present the conflict in Chechnya and some of the main issues of the conflict outlined. 3) apply Human Needs Theory to the conflict to see whether it may prove useful in moving towards resolution. Also considering issues of perception, enemy images, and lack of trust when outlining how to move towards resolution, 4) offer conclusions and observations that HNT could effectively give new insights into finding strategies which may work for both parties.

A discussion of the impact of unresolved trauma on the individual, the family, the community/society, and on future generations. The panel explores how secondary trauma historically carries over and is played out in the lives, behaviors, and hypersensitivities of individuals with relationships to those who have directly experienced trauma. Included will be examining any higher incidence of extreme reaction to stress or feelings of threat, including violence. Panel members with extensive experience in working with and studying victims in Beslan, Chechnya, Cambodia, and other regions share approaches in assessing and helping to resolve and heal trauma.
