2008 Conference Series

A note about this coming year's Conference Series...

In 2004 Common Bond Institute launched an ambitious experiment: collaborting on organizing and programmatically linking a series of international conferences - 5 events in 3 countries - all of which focused on exploring and advancing the consciousness of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. The intent was to create a means for building on the kind of concentrated focus, energy, and potential that is generated within the dynamics of conferences, to both increase the potential of each event and to promote a more effective channeling of this energy into practical applications beyond the events themselves.

Although each is independent with its own content and goals, all events in this series are programmatically linked to progressively build on each other for an energetic flow and larger impact. As a result, outcomes have emerged and coalesced synergistically as the process has progressed. Some of these outcomes have inspired promising new collaborative projects and partnerships, some of which CBI is directly involved in. The sequence is designed to maximize the energy and products of each event to deepen the dialogue and foster proactive networks of social activists and healers along the way. The intent of these networks will be to further the emergence of a consciousness of peace and create practical strategies for applying results to current social relationships to develop the capacity for peace, locally and globally. Other international conferences are invited into the network that share this focus for greater mutual benefit.

This integrated event series has been continued through 2009. Below is a list of conferences being coordinated to date in 2008, and 2009.

3rd Annual International Conference on
"Engaging The OTHER"
The Power of Compassion

September 4-7, 2008
San Francisco, (San Mateo) California USA

A multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary conference series on "Engaging The OTHER" created by CBI and the International Humanistic Psychology Association (IHPA), in collaboration with a growing international list of cooperating organizations. The ETO Conference is an integrated collaboration with global representation, and is held in conjunction with an upcoming edited book in progress addressing psycho-social concepts of "The Other" in a cross-cultural forum. It examines this fundamentally subjective phenomenon with a multicultural eye for the purpose of stimulating more public dialogue; deeper inquiry into fundamental questions, dilemmas, and implications; formulating findings for publication and wider public awareness; and tapping our shared wisdom - from the local to the global - in developing practical applications for promoting increased understanding, sensitivity, and compassion. The conference is endorsed by currently over 85 universities and organizations internationally, and registration is open to all participants globally.

International
"Ecology of War and Peace"
Youth Conference

In 2004 CBI established "The Ecology of War and Peace" in partnership with HARMONY Institute, and in cooperation with the International Humanistic Psychology Association (IHPA) and the Jane Goodal Institute. This is a parallel youth conference held during the ICR Conference, addressing issues of negative stereotypes, prejudice, and demonizing and dehumanizing individuals and groups. The theme of ecology and environmental consciousness is used as a common link all parties can resonate and experience being "on the same side" with as they also delve into personal interactions and explore the above relationship dynamics. Included in this process is exploring the ecological impact of human wars. A virtual Global Youth Community, for and operated by youth participants, is currently being established through CBI's web site to continue future dialogue, cooperation, and joint projects beyond the conferences. The conference is open to all participants globally
