2nd Annual International Conference on
Practical Models For Peace:
Making a Difference Now

June, 2012 ~ Israel

In the midst of frustration, impasse, and animosity,
there is another story of practical hope and healing....
A new annual multi-disciplinary conference series
promoting support for successful peace programs
in Israel and Palestine

Endorsed by:
universities and organizations internationally

Official Partner of
Charter For Compassion
& Parliament of World's Religions

Bringing together existing exemplary and successful best practices for ending the conflict in the Middle East, from programs in each society to compelling joint efforts by partners from all sides

 Need:

 1) The general public and key decision and policy makers have little awareness of both the common communal trauma experiences of the parties in conflict, and existing best practices and successful models for healing trauma, bridging the divide, and ending the conflict in Israel and Palestine, as well as organizations with a track record in doing this work.
 2) These same model organizations are experiencing severely limited and declining financial and human resources required to continue and accomplish their work, at the very time of escalating tensions that demands redoubling and expanding all effective efforts.
 3) There is a chronic, growing sense of dismay, powerlessness, and fatality in the Middle East and general global public, largely promoted by lack of knowledge of models that work and a media focus on animosity and small group extremists on all sides who fuel polarity and monopolize the pubic stage.

 Purpose:

 1) To bring together representatives of existing, exemplary, and successful best practices for healing and ending the conflict in the Middle East, from programs in each society to compelling joint efforts by partners from all sides.
 2) To share successful models and methods, address intergenerational trauma, victim identities, and challenges faced, and explore possibilities for mutual support, strategic cooperation, and action planning.
 3) To raise global public awareness of these successful models for peace and healing as an antidote to widespread misunderstanding, and to promote strong public influence for support of these efforts.

 Format and Content:

By design, the conference focuses on engaged dialogue and deliberation by all participants, highlighting successful, practical models represented, and promoting action planning to support, advance, and expand them. Prepared presentations (workshops, topical panels, and keynotes) provide specific learning and stimulus for processing in facilitated dialogue and action planning groups woven throughout each day. Conference components:

  1.  Break-out sessions of Workshops & Practical Presentations
  2.  Topical Roundtables
  3.  Daily Conference-wide Facilitated Dialogue and
       Action Planning Groups
  4.  Keynote Speakers
  5.  Virtual Participation from other countries
  6.  Rich Networking for Cooperation on Applications
  7.  Cultural Events and Performances
  8.  Multi-cultural Community
  9.  Displays
Virtual Participation: In addition to on-site presenters, key individuals and groups of participanys from other countries will be Skyped into the conference for real-time, 2-way participation during plenary sessions.
Location: Wahat Al Salaam/Neve Shalom (WASNS)

                            99761 Doar Na Shimshon, Israel

To underscore existing possibilities for peace, the conference is held at WASNS - a setting of practical hope and healing that is a remarkable 40 year model for successful reconciliation, co-existence, and harmony in the heart of this region of conflict.

 Guidelines For Compassionate Dialogue

The PMP Conference strives to promote an inclusive, compassionate dialogue that honors different personal experiences, perspectives, and narratives, while allowing for better expressing and listening to each other as we work together toward understanding and harmony. Our intention is to create an open venue where we can engage meaningfully and invite in a public dialogue that brings our joint wisdom to bear in exploring sometimes difficult issues that effect us all. This is based on the premise that it does not require that we be the same to be appreciate of, at peace with, and secure in our relationships with each other; only that we be familiar enough with each others story to share the humanity and trustworthiness that resides in each of us.
We ask all participants to assist us by carrying and expressing this intent throughout the conference.
