4th Annual Conference on Muslim Mental Health
ACCEPT: Learning the Art of Coexistence
and Resilience in Conflicting Times

Creating Awareness and Fostering Integration into the Greater Community

Presenting on the trauma of the past, the resilience of today,
and integration for the future.

Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center
Michigan State University
55 South Harrison Avenue, East Lansing, Michigan

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks have had significant consequences for the Muslim American community. The community as a whole has experienced high levels of discrimination. Studies continue to identify increases in psychiatric disorders within this population, such as anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Much less work has been done, however, to identify resilience and adaptive patterns and behaviors.

This 4th Annual Muslim Mental Health Conference will focus on ways Muslim Americans have been successful in the face of increased adversity after 9/11. The conference will address both the sources of ongoing trauma as well as the factors of resilience identified by Muslim Americans. The day will conclude with a panel discussion to synthesize what was learned and to strategize important directions for the future of Muslim mental health.
